IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS

What Would Jesus Do?

John 14:12
Those who believe in Me will do what I do

In the footsteps of Jesus

1 Pet 2:21 This is the kind of life you've been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came His way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.

Matt 10:38 Those who do not take up their cross and follow in my steps are not fit to be my disciples.

John 13:15 I have set an example for you, so that you will do just what I have done for you.

Matt 11:29 Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.

As followers of Jesus, we have to follow in His footsteps, we have to do what He is doing, say what He is saying, give what He is giving; we must have the same attitude that Jesus had . He has set the example for us in all areas of life and we should ask ourselves every moment "what would Jesus do?", and act accordingly.

... leaving you an example so that you should follow in His steps (1 Pet 2:21)

What example did Jesus give us?

* According to 1 Pet 2:22:
He committed no sin.
He never told a lie.
When He was insulted, He didn’t answer with an insult.
They called Him every name in the book and He said nothing back.
He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.
When He suffered He placed His hope in God.
 (1 Thess 5:15 do not pay back wrong for wrong; do good to one another and to all people)

* According to Phil 2:5:
We should have the same attitude that Jesus had.
Be willing to give up what you have.
Be a servant.
Be humble.
Be obedient.
(Matt 23:11 & 12 the greatest one is the servant, whoever humbles himself will be made great)

* According to John 15:12 and John 13:34:
Love one another as Jesus loves us; His love is unconditional, His love is sacrificial, His love is for everybody.
(1 Cor 13:4-7 love is patient, kind, not jealous or conceited or proud, not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable, it doesn't keep record of wrongs, it never gives up, etc)

* According to Col 3:13:
Jesus forgives us, we have to follow His example and forgive others in the same way.
(Matt 18:22 Jesus says that we must forgive a brother seventy times seven. 1 Cor 13:5 says that love keeps no record of wrongs; by the time we have forgiven someone 49 times, we will be in the habit of forgiving)

* According to Luke 6:36:
Jesus is merciful. If we want to follow His example we have to love, give, do good, love enemies, lend & expect nothing back, be good to the ungrateful and the wicked, be willing to turn the other cheek, pray for those who hurt you. Do not judge, condemn and criticize. (Luke 6:27-37)
Do for others what you want them to do for you. (Matt 7:12)
Be peaceful, friendly, have a gentle attitude. (Titus 3:2)

* According to Matt 5:48:
Jesus is perfect. How can I follow that example and be perfect?
He forgives us and cleanses us (1 Joh 1:19)
(Isaiah 1:18:
No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.)

* According to 1 Pet 1:15-16:
Jesus is holy. If I want to be holy, I have to be without any sin. How is that possible? Believe that Jesus took all your sins on Him when He died on the cross; He removes your sin, He doesn't think about it anymore. (Ps 51:7 ... remove my sin, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow)
Live a holy life by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit who lives in you. (Gal 5:25
If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives)

* According to Matt 11:29:
Jesus says that He is gentle and lowly in heart. Let us learn this from Him, and imitate Him in these characteristics.
(Phil 4:5 Show a gentle attitude toward everyone)

* According to John 8:11:
Jesus doesn't condemn or judge the woman who was caught in the act of adultery, He doesn't condemn anyone for any sin.
( MAtt 7:1 Stop judging others, and you will not be judged)

* According to Mark 1:35:
According to this verse Jesus went out early in the morning to pray and have a quiet time. This is what we should also do. 1 Thess 5:17 says: pray at all times and Ps 1:2 says: chew on scripture day and night.

When we follow the example of Jesus, we will be able to set an example for others to follow:
1 Tim 4:12 We should always be an example in speech, conduct, love & purity. The fruit of the Spirit should be visible in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control.

Follow the example of Jesus, so that you can say like Paul: "Imitate me, then, just as I imitate Christ" (1 Cor 11:1)
